Women's Diagnostic Center

Located on the second floor of Medical Office Building II in a newly renovated suite, the

Women's Diagnostic Center

provides important diagnostic testing such as mammography, bone densitometry and stereotactic breast biopsy all in one easily accessible location.

Mammography
Utilizing an extremely low dose of X-ray, mammography is the single best screening test for breast cancer. It may detect an abnormality even before a lump is felt by you or your doctor.

The digital mammography allows physicians to manipulate patient's image in order to magnify suspicious areas, frequently requiring fewer second appointments for additional testing. Here at Springhill, we have been providing digital mammography for 5 years. This has allowed us to become a very experienced digital team.

Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
This sophisticated technique is useful for extremely small lumps that cannot be palpated but are detected on mammography. Less invasive than traditional surgical biopsy, stereotactic breast biopsy involves making only a very small incision, about the size of an eyelash, in the breast. A needle is then inserted in the small opening and a sample is taken from the suspicious area. From the sample, pathologists can examine the tissue and determine whether it is benign or cancerous, allowing for early treatment.

Bone Densitometry Testing
Osteoporosis leads to 1.5 million fractures or bone breaks per year, mostly in the hip, spine, and wrist. To aid in the early treatment of osteoporosis, bone densitometry measures the density of the spine, hip and other bones. Using the highly sensitive bone densitometry, a patient's bone mineral density can be painlessly measured helping to identify bone weakening at a much earlier stage than conventional X-ray systems. The best way to gauge a woman's risk for osteoporotic fractures is to measure her bone mass. Early diagnosis of osteoporosis allows for timely treatment to slow or halt bone loss.
