Secret Safe Place

If you've just had a baby and can't keep it, there is a place you can go for help. Now there is a Secret Safe Place for Newborns at Springhill Medical Center and other Mobile County hospitals. Newborn babies (up to 72 hours old) can be brought into the hospital's Emergency Department, and the baby will be given confidential emergency care and shelter. Total secrecy is assured, and the police will not be called. No questions asked!

You can give up your unharmed baby at any Secret Safe Place for Newborns location:

  • Springhill Medical Center
  • Providence Hospital
  • USA Medical Center
  • USA Children's and Women's Hospital
  • USA Knollwood Hospital
  • Mobile Infirmary Medical Center

You do not have to identify yourself.

Your newborn will receive good care and a good home.

A Secret Safe Place promises:

  • No identification of the mother
  • No prosecution of the mother
  • The right to change your mind
  • A health exam for your newborn
  • Health care for your newborn
  • Foster home/adoption for your newborn.

How does it work?

  1. The baby must be brought to the hospital's Emergency Department.
  2. The baby must be given to a doctor or nurse.
  3. Your baby will be provided a safe haven, given medical attention and care until placement in an appropriate home.
