Exercise
The rehabilitation team prescribes an individual exercise plan for each participant based on his/her screening and evaluations, goals and physician recommendations. Throughout the program, team members monitor an individual's progress by checking heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure and weight. Continuous electrocardiograph (EKG) monitoring, along with supplemental oxygen and readily available emergency personnel and equipment provide a safe environment for exercise. The cardiovascular equipment provides the means to a thorough workout.
Patient Instruction
Individual instruction and class settings provide patients and their family members with an overview of heart and lung disease and their manageability. Topics include anatomy and physiology, cardiac and pulmonary diseases, stress intervention, smoking cessation, medications, body mechanics and the use of in-home respiratory equipment. The patient is instructed in risk factor management as well as good nutrition and healthier habits to promote a new outlook on life.
