Meet the Doctors

Texel D. Johnson, M.D., is an Alabama native. He was valedictorian of his graduating class at Opp High School. He subsequently attended the University of Alabama where he was a Gorgas Scholar and a recipient of one of only 25 Alumni Merit Scholarships.
He graduated cum laude from the University of Alabama and then attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honors medical society, to which he still belongs. He graduated third in his class scholastically and then went on to complete his graduate medical training at the University of South Alabama Hospitals and Clinics.
He has practiced medicine with a specialty in family practice at the Dauphin Island Parkway clinic continuously since October 1984. He is excited to be a member of the Springhill Physician Practices network and has special interests in adult and geriatric care.

Henrietta T. Kovacs, M.D., is originally from Budapest. She graduated from the University of Szeged Medical School in 1966. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Szeged’s affiliated hospitals in 1972.
After completing her residency, she practiced at the Rheumatology Clinic of Szeged National Healthcare Center for two years. In the following five years, she practiced mainly tropical medicine in Kinshasa, Zaire, at the Mama Yemo Hospital/FOMECO. She did her ECFMG exam in 1980 and completed a Straight Internal Medicine Residency at the University of South Dakota Affiliated Hospitals in Sioux Falls for the next three years.
Dr. Kovacs returned to Mobile (where her family resides) in 1984 to do private practice with Family Medical. She later joined Mobile Family Physicians. Since 2009, she has been affiliated with Springhill Physician Practices. Her present practice includes adult patient care at a primary level-with interest in internal medicine.
Dr. Kovacs is a member of the AMA, Alabama Medical Association, and Mobile County Medical Association. Her husband, Istvan, is an Emeritus Professor of Mathematics at the University of South Alabama. She has four children and four grandchildren.

Meeta S. Nicholas, C.R.N.P., is a native and life-long resident of Mobile. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mobile in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Mrs. Nicholas was the recipient of the President’s Award for Highest Academic Achievement, the School of Nursing Award and was elected to the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She received a Master of Science in Nursing with Honors from the University of Mobile in 2002 and was presented the prestigious Innovations in Nursing Award. She is a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in Family Practice.
Mrs. Nicholas came to work on the campus of Springhill Medical Center in 1998 as a workers’ compensation case manager for a contract employer. In 2002, she became a Springhill employee as Director of Industrial Health Services. During that time, she was instrumental in the development, management, and marketing of the Occupational Health Division of the Springhill Physician Practices network. In April 2009, Mrs. Nicholas began working full time as an occupational health and family practice provider at the Dauphin Island Parkway location.
Professional memberships include Bay Area Nurse Practitioners Association (BANPA), Mobile Occupational Health Nurses (MOHN), South Alabama Association of Occupational Health Nurses (SAAOHN), and American Association of Occupational Health Nurses (AAOHN).
