Knowledge is Power
The focus of Springhill’s Diabetes Education Center is knowledge. Believing that patients who know as much as possible are better able to cope with diabetes, the Center emphasizes self-management skills to help make diabetes another part of day-to-day life.
Through the Center, patients with diabetes learn and discuss, by way of individual assessment and consultation, ways to manage the disease, such as:
- Meal Planning
- Blood Glucose Monitoring
- Medical Complications
- Coping Skills
- Sick-Day Management
- Foot Care
- Medication & Insulin Injection
At SMC, we believe in giving you more. That is why we go the extra mile in caring for our patients and their family. Patients and families are offered group classes that focus on the different aspects of care. These group sessions stress the skills people with diabetes must learn and the knowledge they must have to make living in the everyday world possible.
Included in these sessions are a wide range of diabetes-oriented subjects such as glucose monitoring, travel tips, medical complications and updates on research related to the disease. We offer four comprehensive class programs each month. The times offered include morning, afternoon, evening and Saturday classes. Other services offered by our staff include:
|Individualized consultation as requested.
|Gestational diabetes education for pregnant patients anticipating delivery at SMC.
|Insulin pump initiation and education provided by our certified pump trainer.
We also offer several support group meetings throughout the year. Guest speakers provide lectures on a variety of diabetes-related topics. Lunch is served, so registration is required. For more information on support groups call 340-6886 to inquire about our next meeting and to register. Please feel free to contact our Certified Diabetes Educators at 460-5367 or 340-6886.
