Picture of a MRI result

Our Vantage MRI system is one of the first three in the country. With the Vantage, patient stress is reduced for a more comfortable exam experience and shorter scan times. Special features include:

  • Increased patient safety with our industry-leading, unique exams that eliminate the requirement of administering agents along with the potential for gadolinium-induced toxicity.

  • Ultra-short, ultra-wide-bore system to ease claustrophobia without sacrificing performance.

  • Adjustable lighting and ventilation throughout the bore.

  • Toshiba's patented Pianissimo technology to eliminate up to 90% of acoustic noise, dramatically reducing patient anxiety.

  • Ability to image 80 percent of the body feet first, including breast.

  • Patient observation system.

  • Built-in bilateral arm rests.

  • Table lowers to 42 cm (16.5 inches) from the floor.

  • Patient couch has a 440 lb weight limit.

About the exam

No special preparations are required prior to your exam. You may eat and drink normally, although it is best to limit your caffeine intake. Women should also refrain from wearing eye shadow or mascara.

Prior to the exam you will be asked to remove all jewelry and metal objects. During the exam, just like a photograph, more accurate images result when you are still.

The technologist may place an MRI coil around the part of the body tobe scanned. Like an antenna, the closer the coil is to the area of interest on your body, the better it receives your signal and the better the image quality of your exam.

MRI scans do not use any X-rays or other types of potentially harmful radiation.

Immediately following the scan, you may resume your normal activities unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

After the exam

You may resume normal activities and diet as prescribed by your doctor. The radiologist will report the results of the exam to your physician.

If you have any other questions about MRI scans, please do not hesitate to ask the staff in attendance or call the Radiology Department at Springhill Medical Center at 460-5388.
