At Springhill Medical Center, we pride ourselves on being the most technologically advanced health care provider in southern Alabama. In this effort, it is crucial to have the most up-to-date surgical techniques and equipment. Our surgical doctors are expertly trained in all of the latest procedures as well. Being technologically advanced saves the patient time in recovery and lessens post surgical pain.

Although we have several different types of surgical procedures, the ones we are highlighting here are Robotic and Orbera surgeries. Several more will be added and highlighted in the near future.

What is the da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System?

The da Vinci Surgical System is a tool that utilizes advanced, robotic, computer and optical technologies to assist your surgeon with your operation. It does not act on its own and its movements are controlled by your surgeon. The da Vinci Surgical System has a 3D high definition (3D-HD) vision system, special instruments and computer software that allow your surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.

What is Orbera Surgery?

The intragastric balloon, also known by one of its trade names, Orbera, is the latest weight loss-related medical device to be approved by the FDA, and it's now being offered only at Springhill Medical Center.  SMC is the first hospital in the Mobile area to offer the procedure and is the only location for the procedure between New Orleans and Dothan. The Orbera Managed Weight Loss System consists of two parts, the first being the device itself – a balloon-like implant – and the second being a yearlong medical weight loss program. This program is ideal for patients who may not qualify for bariatric surgery or who are concerned about a surgical procedure and would prefer a non-surgical option.
