Ah, spring! A beautiful time of year. A time when many are focused on the end of the school year, the beach, vacations, etc. But, did you realize that spring is the best time to have your mammogram?

Here at Springhill Women's Center, spring is the slowest time for our patient load, making it the fastest time for you to get your mammogram ! Shorter wait times, faster service.

Many women focus their breast imaging around the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month. While Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a great reminder and service to the community, it also makes the fall a very busy time for us. Of course, if you have already started your mammogram appointments in the fall of the year, please keep in mind that some insurances cover a mammogram only "every 12 months" instead of "once a calendar year," so please check with them before making your appointment.

And, in case you didn’t know, Springhill Medical Center was the first Mammography center to utilize digital images for mammograms in Mobile. We have been using digital breast imaging since 2002! Our certified technologists are the most experienced in obtaining a perfect image, and our board certified radiologists have been reading digital mammography longer than any others in the city.

Mammography is our most powerful breast cancer detection tool. It has helped reduce breast cancer mortality in the U.S. by nearly 1/3 since 1990. In fact, mammograms show changes in the breast up to two years before a patient or physician can feel them. The American Cancer Society recommends that Women age 40 and older should have a mammogram every year and should continue to do so for as long as they are in good health.

Celebrate spring by taking care of yourself!
