SMH Auxiliary Honored for Supporting Local Arts

August 31, 2012

SMH Auxiliary recently won an award at the Mobile Arts Council’s ninth annual Greater Mobile Arts Awards (GMAA). The award acknowledges the contributions to the arts given by the organization to the community.

The award the Auxiliary received focuses on two of its community outreach activities: Color by Kids Art Competitions and financial gifts to the eight traveling elementary public school art teachers. Mobile’s Color by Kids celebrated its 30th year as a juried art competition open to all Mobile County school students. The Auxiliary’s annual gift of $8,000 provides classroom art supplies to the traveling art teachers who teach at numerous schools. The award shows the community how important art is to Springhill Medical Center and its Auxiliary.

A reception at the Mobile Arts Council office was held Aug. 23 for award nominees and recipients. The award will be presented at the official ceremony on Sept.14 in Cathedral Square.
