Baby Rest Memorial Service Set for Oct. 13

September 27, 2013

Pine Crest Funeral Home and local hospitals have come together to offer the community a memorial service in honor of all the infants who touched our lives in their brief time on Earth.  The annual Baby Rest Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway.

The service will include the reading of each infant’s name, lighting of a candle of remembrance, and a memory chest for families to place memorial items. A dove release is planned for after the service.  Registration for the families begins at 1:30 p.m.

The memorial service is open to all families who have suffered the loss of an infant before, during, or after birth, as well as those who loved and cared for them.  The Baby Rest Memorial was initiated in 2000 through the efforts of The Alabama Baby Coalition, Healing Through Hope, area hospitals, and Pine Crest Cemetery.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death which includes, but is not limited to, miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS or the death of a newborn.  It is observed annually in the United States on Oct. 15.  The day is observed with remembrance ceremonies and candle lighting vigils, concluding with the International Wave of Light, a worldwide lighting of candles at 7 p.m.  Our local RSA tower will be lit in lavender in memory of the babies.
