Nurse-of-the-Year-2019.jpgSpringhill Medical Center recognized Linda Davis, RN, as 2019 Nurse of the Year.

Davis is a charge nurse on Unit 1300 and has been a nurse for 30 years, most of that employed at SMC. Over the years, she has held positions in outpatient IV services and on the telemetry and post partum units.

“I enjoy working at Springhill because my co-workers are like family,” she said about “the best hospital in the city. Springhill truly cares for its employees.”

Springhill celebrated the 2019 Nurses Week May 13-17 wrapping up with a recognition reception on May 16 where Linda received her award.

“What a tremendous compliment her co-workers have paid Linda!” said Chief Nursing Executive Paul Read, RN.  “She is a well-deserving professional who has been with us for a very long time.  She recently received a nomination from the Alabama State Nurses Association for the Citation of Excellence award.  We are so proud of her, but this nomination is not surprising to us as we have the pleasure of witnessing her excellence on a daily basis.  Patients often compliment Linda on her high quality patient care and compassion.”

Nurses Week is a great opportunity for Springhill to recognize nurses like Linda for the example they set and the contributions they have made to our hospital and the community.

According to her nomination, Linda is full of energy, flexible, adaptive, and maintains a can-do attitude.  She continues to have a thirst for knowledge and is a wonderful leader and educator.  “My first encounter with Linda was during orientation for a new position for me.  I entered the new unit for the first time during shift change and she greeted me with a smile and introduced herself.  She escorted me to the break room and showed me around the unit.  I am certain after a 12-hour shift she was exhausted and ready to head home, but she effortlessly welcomed me with a radiant smile that I now look forward to seeing.”

Linda is mother to four beautiful children and grandmother to six grandsons. She is a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She has enjoyed a very lengthy career as a nurse since 1981 and is looking forward to retirement later this year.
