Heart Walk for a Heart Healthy Lifestyle

Posted On: November 15, 2020

Springhill Medical Center employees took time away from busy schedules to raise awareness for the American Heart Association’s 2020 Heart Walk and to emphasize the importance of living heart healthy!

The unexpected presence of a global pandemic brought a whole new look to this event. However, walking with facemasks and social distancing didn’t hinder the energy and enthusiasm of these employees. Instead, it brought big cheeky smiles, laughs and appreciation of a beautiful day to celebrate wellness and promote living a heart healthy life!

On the south side of the SMC’s Gerald Wallace Annex Building, a white tent was setup on the green grassy space, perfect for an outdoor event with plenty of room for everyone to space out and enjoy visiting.

Participants received SMC T-shirts promoting SMC’s Structural Heart Program and enjoyed having their photos taken with Marketing’s special surprise guest, “Willow”, a super cute lil’ miniature horse who sported fine red accessories, along with her badge of honor, “Therapy Horse In-Training.” Willow especially enjoyed the green grassy space – every opportunity she could!

Willow, along with SMC’s Security team, led the walkers along the wellness path. Employees followed the hearts along chalked on the road and observed the posted signs offering “10 Tips for a Healthy Heart.” The one-mile path took everyone exploring the wooded views of Springhill Memorial Drive to a water station set up at the halfway point in the cul-de-sac and then back to the tent. Fresh red apples and more water awaited our finishers, as everyone enjoyed a final visit and received an SMC goodie bag to take with them.
