PET Scanner

Located on the Springhill Medical Center campus (next in the Gerald L. Wallace Annex Building), Mobile Molecular Imaging offers the GE Discovery ST, a redesigned PET/CT. This system integrates a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanner with a multi-slice Computed Tomography (CT) scanner to completely optimize cancer care. This cancer screening equipment is capable of 2-D and 3-D imaging. It features a larger opening to accommodate all patient studies or sizes.

The Discovery ST provides referring physicians with more sensitivity, speed, resolution and diagnostic confidence when treating cancer patients. By shortening the scan times, the patient will experience less time on the scanning table. "Less time on the table means faster results and greater patient comfort," said radiologist Allen Oaks, M.D. "The new Discovery ST allows us to not only 'see' the disease, but to begin to treat it."

The PET/CT scan combines the benefits of both the traditional PET and CT scanners, allowing doctors to see the internal structures of the human body, view metabolic activity within those structures, and pinpoint where abnormal lesions are located so that they may target the disease.
